Courtney Mclaughlin

The daughter of “Go as Far as You Can Dream and Don’t Forget Home,” Courtney is like a canary in a coal mine; she constantly seeks spaces and possibilities for Black people to have a moment to breathe. She knows that this is necessary for Black people to thrive. The sister of “I Just Want to Live,” her joy is connecting and finding solutions in impossible circumstances. The mother of “Just Let Me Create,” Courtney is inspired by the dreamers (before, now, and to come) that surround her, and pride comes from witnessing them grow.

Dream for Black Children

“I recognize I am borrowing time from the next generation of Black Genius’ and I don’t want to waste a single moment. Therefore, Black Genius protection, for me, is all about reclaiming my time and our children’s time so that we can show up in this life in authentic ways that are important and meaningful to us and not by the determination of others.”
