Valerie Anderson, PhD

Dr. Valerie Anderson has served in leadership roles in nonprofit, education and community-based organizations focused on holistic youth development, strengthening education-to-career pipelines, and addressing systemic barriers to educational attainment and economic mobility. She serves as Chief Impact Officer at the Emily K Center, a nonprofit college access organization in Durham committed to partnering with youth and families facing the most pronounced systemic barriers to economic, educational, and career opportunities to pursue their personal, academic, and career goals. Dr. Anderson is also the Principal of Anderson Insights Evaluation and Consulting, a firm dedicated to partnering with businesses and organizations actively working to advance and liberate communities of color through equitable and collaborative strategic, capacity-building, and evaluative processes. She serves on the board of NC Child, a statewide advocacy organization focused on ensuring all children have what they need to thrive.

Dr. Anderson obtained her B.A. in psychology from Yale University and her Ph.D. in developmental psychology from Duke University. She is proud to call Durham home, where she lives with her husband and three children.
